Reality says........they've passed away
......Is not......perception.........reality......
For I feel...a living presence...as though
.......They stand....right next......to me
Those guiding hands.......of long ago
........So firm....against.....my brow
As strong and gentle...as yesterday
...Is the warmth....which I....know now
That legacy of.........the distant past
.........Still................a mighty roar
Memories.....sustain.........my soul
.....And on...whose wings....I soar
Reality says......they've passed away
...Silenced.......in death......and then
Perception says...they're just...as close
....And real....as way.......back when
maybe that feeling within that they are by your side, keeps us from going totaly insane. great poem and i relate to what you write. thank you for sharing christina J
Very nice. I liked the premise of perception/reality. Your words flowed. I will have to read more of your work.
A wonderful poem which expresses beautifully that our loved ones are alive in our heart and mind. A comfort to us, and a joy too! Thanks for sharing.
thank you for your comments on The Night Visitor i have just read yours.i loved this poem, its beautiful.I feel you and i have had somewhat similar experiences which i have found very comforting.i will get round to reading some more of your poetry but i am not very well at the moment. once again many thanks pam
I encourage you to read my poem titled 'space, time, and me'
Beautiful poem my friend, but i must inform; Reality is not perception, Reality is perspective. You can never truly rein in reality with perception, but your perspective can get much closer. And this is the reason I'm sorry to say, when one is dead.....they are dead; and after the passing, your perspective, much like the law of time if not for ignorance with change.
Nice poem. Thank you for the heads-up, albeit I just read your review of my poem today. You are an intelligent writer and a deep thinker. I enjoy your style and your opinions as you so creatively and poetically indite.
This is lovely; the thoughts almost more than the rhymes. I feel very much the truth lives in these lines.
Hi Jim, A big thank you for taking to time to direct me to this one. I do agree that they come to visit and help in times of need - but I just wish I could actually hear her voice one more time. Best wishes to you.

This is indeed a very beautifully expressed and written poem, James, and one that has a charming and haunting quality to it as well. Many of us who have had parents or other loved ones pass away have occasionally felt such a feeling of their presence, especially at a time of crisis or grief in our lives. Essentially, that feeling of their proximity to us during those times comforts and reassures us, rather than frightens us. Your fine poem captured very well these emotions for the reader to enjoy and ponder upon. Carl.
