Loneliness
The most tenebrous demon
To overcome.
If you could find a friend
Great! If can't
Treat the whole world as a friend.
It is better to have friends
Than enemies. For that
You must have faith in goodness.
Treat your own self
Not as your enemy but
As your best friend.
This silent but trusted friend
Is the best companion
Of the cursed solitary hours.
So well said, there is nothing so obscure like loneliness in this world, In this universe teeming with billions of stars, wilderness still weighs supreme, this earth teeming with life, loneliness lands an ugly shadow still.
Looking deep into self is realisation. When it happens the individual will feel that his best friend is he himself. It's a reality that the poetess has arrived at by saying " Treat your own self.....as your best friend" .
2 - but i'll take another person as a companion (rather than me) any day, as long as s/he is as nice as Savita. :) i haven't (yet) figured out to call myself on phone! ! ! to MyPoemList bri :)
1 - when i 'Googled' tenebrous (a new word for me) i found it was the name of a 'animal' character in a Harry Potter tale. are you a fan? ? i'm not. also: " literary adjective: tenebrous dark; shadowy or obscure" aren't ALL DEMONS " dark" ? ? ? perhaps i AM my best friend! ! i certainly love myself! ! !
'Treat your own self as your best friend'....... Great advice.... Savita! Other friends will desert us one day or the other. So begin loving oneself more and bring God to our company! This is the best antidote to loneliness that will otherwise poison our soul!
You make a powerful observation....When you treat yourself as an enemy, loneliness becomes the constant companion. A great work, Savita.
