Lost Poem by Bharati Nayak

Lost

Rating: 5.0

I am lost
In search of myself
Here and there
I only find the fragments
Lying in different corners.

My days pass
Playing different roles
Father calls me daughter
Son calls me mother
Then, who am I?

I am like a piece of land
Which I give away
By dividing myself
But at the end
Nothing is left.

As the day
Draws to an end
I try to collect myself
Try to piece together
To find a totality
I see
I have melted into vacuum.

The everyday routine can be very frustrating. A little time of rest is helpful. Great poem

And I've melted into vacuum, Thank you for sharing this wonderful poem. But then take heart, science says vacuum is impossible to reach. And there are things even when divided remain the same, say an infinity. And yet a poetic heart is not ruled by head.

Many many thanks Poet Sri Aniruddha Pathak ji for your insightful comment.I like your words that there are things when divided remain the same, like infinity. Yes, a woman's contribution to a family and society is immense and it can not be valued in measurable terms.Still how many people realise this?

I am like a piece of land Which I give away By dividing myself But at the end Nothing is left. - this is so unfair, there must be a way for your escape, for you to find and simply enjoy yourself without the demands from others. Your stanza taken in the proper context is very powerful.

A woman is appreciated for her multitasking quality.............and that ultimately becomes her identity......the entire family is dependent on her...she is the backbone of her family..still..doesn't have a particular self identity...she is always addressed as somebody's daughter, wife, sister, mother...............I don't know whether I should appreciate you or thank you for this poem....Really amazing...

Thank you Abhipsa Panda for your appreciation.Being from the same cultural background and a woman, you can well feel the emotions addressed in the poem.
