Maybe - Poem by Tyree Kordosky

Maybe we knew
it would turn out this way.

Maybe somewhere,
in the back of our minds,
we saw the loss
long before the crash.

Maybe everyone else knew, too.

Maybe they only encouraged us
to save us from the suffering
of prolonged exposure
to the carnage.

Maybe the ambulance will get there
in time to save the children.

Maybe the priest will arrive
at last, to save
your soul before

the end.
