Mother Earth - Karuna Or Compassion Poem by Geeta Radhakrishna Menon

Mother Earth - Karuna Or Compassion

Rating: 5.0

Mother Earth nurtures her flora and fauna,
With much love and care!
She cries
When the pretty blooms are so rudely plucked,
Startled when the flowers are pulled,
Torn and scattered,
To be stamped and trampled by the careless feet.
Mother Earth shudders
When the woodcutter chops the trees with his battleaxe,
Or when the little scoundrels pelt stones at the birds!
How can one creation of the Mother
Be so cruel to the other creations?
Such careless and callous attitude
Towards the source of life that feeds?
Enveloped by compassion for her hurt children
The Mother Earth is despondent and sympathetic
For she is Karuna Bhoomi -
The Mother of sympathy and empathy!

Great poem. Mother Earth has rightly been portrayed as one who 'nurtures her flora and fauna.... With much love and care! ' Her cries upon seeing the cruelty of man causing damage to this priceless flora and fauna pierce through the heart of the reader. Thanks, Geeta ji, for sharing such an amazing poem with a scintillating personification.

Hi Geeta, Another jewel from your pen.. Yes! Earth is MOTHER to all. So, no-one has the right to harm another life. This is just Vaikom Mohammed Basheer said in his book, Bhoomiyude Avakaasikall. We who own a piece of land on the strength of the money we spent and the aadharam(document of title) think that it belongs exclusively to us. But is it so? There are millions of other beings living on/ in the land and the land belongs to them as well. We are just one among the owners. Your poem makes one understand this universal fact. So simple; but so un-noticed.. Very simple and forthright write.1000++++++
