Nautical Bird Poem by Ernestine Northover

Nautical Bird

Rating: 4.4

Seagulls, swooping, diving and squawking,
Bombarding the populace, who are out walking,
Miles away from their aqueous home,
So far inland now, do they roam,
Totally at odds, in our environment they fly,
Reeling, circling, high up in the sky.

Up close, they loom large, with a saucy air,
When they face you, with a staring, glaring dare,
They've, no fear of humans, proudly they stand,
Taking offerings, so eagerly, straight from your hand,
Quite eerie is their unmoveable dignified stance,
Taking with trust each and every chance.

They feed upon food, that around them just lies,
On pavements, and grassland, wherever their eyes
Alight. With greed, like vultures they grab each treat,
As if they've never before had food to eat,
Being a very smartly dressed nautical, type of bird,
With that cry, seafaring memories are invariably stirred.
