On Fancy's Wings Poem by Valsa George

On Fancy's Wings

Rating: 5.0

I want to shed my earthly existence
Like the sloughed skin of a snake
To rise high and still higher
To levitate in ether, to feel weightless
To sail beyond sunset, to fly far, far away
To soar into the seamless skies
To float amid twinkling stars
To collide against constellations
To tour round on a magic carpet
And dive into the oceanic depths of space

There I would build a palace
Amid the clouds to dream in peace
With none to distract or extract

No laws of gravity should pull me down
Let me rest awhile in that magic kingdom
Not for ever, but for a little while
To look down from that cosmic arena
And pity upon the poor earthlings
Who never realize how insignificant they are
Stuck in a blue luminous speck
Amid the vast enveloping cosmic dark
And keep sucking their habitation dry!

With all such ignorance shed
With new knowledge garnered
Petty strife set aside, in greater humility
Finally to descend down a better being!

I just love this one, Valsa. Just get out there for a time and see all in perspective. What a great dream, perhaps one our soul can achieve after we shed our body temple. When I read your comments below on the frog-in-the-well the whole poem gets still more meaning and overflows even more with wisdom. A true joy to read!

That's a wonderful journey of renewal n rejuvenation. We all need this break from the worldly life and go on a journey of self-discovery and spiritual cleansing. Again a deft use of language from your master pen. A wonderful flight of imagination to unknown and a coming back in renewed spirit. A huge 10.

A wonderful metaphor of the need for renewal. I lobe the snake skin image. When ours sloughed their skins they had an incredible sparkle like a new being, so your first image picked me up and swept me on into your magical journey. As you say you are taking a little rest (hopefully on Wings) it'll give me a chance to catch up a little on one of my very favourite poets. This one too is going into my favourites' list, Valsa.

Thank you Valsaji, While busy in the day to day bustle of life, we rarely get time to float about in the cloud to be relaxed and in Bliss. Thank you for sharing

With all such ignorance shed With new knowledge garnered Petty strife set aside, in greater humility Finally to descend down a better being! - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -If only, if only, we humans would strive for humility- - just think of all the pollution that would cure, and all the poverty that would be chased away, and the crime rates would drop like a rock. We should all swallow a good-sized dollop of humility every day for our health, for our society's health, and for our planet's health. A well-written important write, Valsa. 10++++++++++++++++++
