Zeus, who was the king of gods
And Demeter, the goddess of harvest
Were husband & wife at Olympus
With their daughter Persephone.
Once when she was in the garden
Picking flowers to her hearts delight
Hades, the king of under world
Kidnapped her in the broad daylight.
Helios-the sun- witnessed it all
Looked at the sad face of Demeter
For she could not bear the mishap
Helios told her about the kidnapping.
Enraged, she went into isolation
Earth became barren and crop did fail
Zeus too challenged Hades' bastion
And asked Hades to set his daughter free.
Hades agreed and let Persephone go
But, he gave her some seeds to swallow
Soon she committed one third time
To Hades & rest in a year to her mother.
