I love the poems from the days of old
Written by poets well renowned and bold
They lamented love won and then betrayed
Wish for friendship lasting till dying days
Recall epic struggles and causes lost
Boast of battles triumphant but at great cost
They were full of praise for glorious deeds
Bemoan lust and insatiable greed
But were quick to judge on creed and caste
Sometimes their views are held in aghast
They sing out beauty in voices divine
And of the elements in words sublime
They thrill us all with tales that were tall
Of creatures of myth both big and small
The sun and the moon in phrases gleam
In chilling ways bring out scary dreams
They bequeath us wisdom most profound
And in their stories lessons abound
They held our hands and cross the seas
Through lashing storms as the ship sails free
Paints distant lands and tease with a glimpse
Show primitive life in conditions grim
Tickles your conscience with tales unjust
Weave complex plots that causes mistrust
They uplift your spirit when you are sad
Create happy endings to make you glad
Such countless wonders for all to behold
And mystical worlds before you unfolds
So poems of long ago I will read
And to days of old my soul it will lead
Where would we be without the masters of literature to inspire. They evoke all the feelings and wonder as you have described...10
Yes, it's a pleasure to read the old classics of literature. A nice poem.
Welcome back Loke! 'Old is gold.'..... it may sound out dated to the youngsters, but there is so much truth in it! I too enjoy reading the old masters, especially the bards who celebrated life and its various facets long back. Enjoyed this great tribute in rhyming verse to the poets of old!
It is good to see you writing again, my friend. I too appreciate many of the simple things that present has left behind
