sweetly, we, of our aquamarines,
drifting in and out of the consciousness
the velvet of our words did create
and the raw timbre
slicing through the veins that surround my core
whispering to the tears aching inside my mind's eye
can i keep you?

he who had only seen the
shades of my emeralds
but never the depths of my gray
he, who did not shy away
from the distinct lines of fallacy
present in my realities.

holding fast to the lines etched in
somber palms,
allowing my destruction only knowing
that the foundation remains the same,
maybe the picture could be pretty this time.
can i keep you?

a warmth of adrenaline,
keeping me here,
keeping me here with you
in your mind's side
the promise of never knowing
and that bubbled fear
that some day we might
fluctuate from these wavelengths.

lovers who can't sort out the pieces
from an image illuminated
by the connecting silver threads of compassion.
and if i breakdown
he'd let me melt from emerald to emerald
unto the dreaded grays,
venturing in the shadows,
hand in hand.
can i keep you?

the hushed capillary of our sincerity
adhering to the silence of self loathing,
we, of our aquamarines,
so far removed from the emerald auras
and the gray ground rules
hand in hand to keep the other
the addiction of need
so easily confused with the torture of want,
we'd never think to dismiss this as
the wishful thinking of a bleeding heart.
even if this is all there is,
can i keep you?
just this once? just this once.
just this one last moment
before we find the cracks in the foundation
that we know cannot be repaired.
just this once.
just this one last time.
