Devil sometimes lurks
In the gentlest face
Like in the quietest
And gentlest ocean
It can take you down
To the bottomless pit
Where death is
Waiting to come.

Yes, it does happen that way. But let us take the solace in the fact that all the turbulence is on the surface, the essential nature of ocean is profound calm that happens deep within. There the the sea displays its utter tranquillity.
Very true, we must be careful if someone is extraordinarily gentle to us. A great thought nicely penned in a wonderful poem.
Mam, we humans are combinations of both devil and fairs.when devil's dominate we are heading for destruction doubtlessly. This truth has been reflected through out this superb poem.Regards heartfelt to tender to you.
At any time, even the most gentle person can fall into the trap laid by the devil. Then abruptly he turns into another devil just like a gentle ocean can turn violent with a sudden storm! Apt comparison! As Susan has rightly opined, I too expected a different content seeing the title. But as you have tried to emphasize here through the title, appearances are deceptive. A sure 10
Oh! ! I saw the title and was expecting a different poem! ! Well done, Rose Marie. Great poets can take their reader to new depths and new thoughts. Again, your style is so controlled and contained- it is like a drawing done with just the right amounts of pen strokes and shadings. 10+++++++++++++ another onto my fav list
For this excellent theme A Full TOP Score of 1o++++++Thank you so much for sharing this marvelous poem with this special theme.
We must always be careful in the confidence of strangers, despite their friendly and beautiful face, so it is with us, the human race, because God has banished this devil from paradise. I'm just too good a believer, I cannot distrust anyone, that is in real life a greatest problem, but there is constantly God's care whispering me in my ears, when I haven't made a good decision. Dear great poetess, you have such great variety in the poems' theme. True fantastic!
