The Raw Gritty Depths Of Grief Poem by Norah Tunney

The Raw Gritty Depths Of Grief

Rating: 5.0

The raw gritty depths of grief.

Forget
all the spiritual books
you have ever read,
the greatest book
is written
in flesh and blood,
you can feel it deep down
in the raw wounded places
of your life,
Forget this poem
it can never be said.
Forget the piety
and sweet safety
of a so-called spiritual life,
just look into the eyes
of everyone
you meet,
and feel
the raw gritty depths
of their grief.

This is very true and very powerful. Honesty is one of my primary laws of poetry. You have it. Thanks for sharing.

Perfect encapsulation of a deep truth; tragically wounded souls do not fit neatly into outlines or chapter divisions or tidy little demarcated paradigms of grieving process punctuated by numerals followed by full stops. There is no full stop to a broken and wounded heart. Often just a cliff falling that seams endless with cries from the heart that seem to be swallowed by the void. This is hauntingly, honestly, bluntly executed art that arises from where all true art arises. The honesty of a profoundly moved heart. Blessings, my good poet. Your art makes even the pain of great loss something upon which we may look, and wonder. Thank you.

Your right Seamus nothing falls into neat categories in the dark lonely valleys of grief. But by going to it's depths one discovers - in the end all that matters is the sheer simple kindness of loving and being loved. What a mystery we live and and move in.

I really like your last two lines. just look into the eyes of every one you meet and feel the gritty depths of theIr grief. The last few years I have learned the the truth of that beautifull, yet simple idea.
