The Road That Was Poem by Nosheen Irfan

The Road That Was

Rating: 5.0

This road had sprawling shades
as a row of trees stood with grace
Trees with heads touching together
with branches holding hands
They seemed like a family,
close knit and non-virtual.

This road had an uncle's shop
that was a whole wide world in itself
With a few rupees in my fist
I bought all my heart wished
A treasure house of fantasy to which
childish feet sauntered with glee

This road had a house,
old in style, modern in thought
Its bricks peeping from behind the cement
but it had weathered many storms
It had withstood the influx of shallowness
Its simplicity was a shelter for inmates.

A fabulous poem. Your last stanza is my favourite though you have sketched different things along the road. Top score.
