The Swan Poem by Harley White

The Swan

Rating: 5.0

[Song Lyric]

[to music of 'The Swan' from 'Carnival of the Animals' by Camille Saint-Saëns,1835-1910 (including an audio file of me playing 'The Swan' on my flute...) ]

Would I could soar like a silver swan
O'er field and mountain river hill and dale,
I'd with my wishes sail on and on
High high in the sky above this tower jail.

If I had wings like a bird of flight
I'd glide away on a ray of light,
Floating until I'd arisen
Far from reality's prison.

I sing my song to the sun and rain;
Slow drift the days when hopes seem all in vain,
While on the moonbeams my prayers fly forever from view
And like my dreams never come true.
