Those Friends Poem by Anil Kumar Panda

Those Friends

Rating: 5.0

All those friends are gone
With whom I have talked about
Childhood days
About the overflowing drains
During rainy season
About the picnics where we
Used to drink liquor and cigarettes
And used to dance
To the tunes of love songs
All those friends are gone
And their widows are left alone
Children have gone to work
In different cities
Not to return
And we old men who are still
Alive see our deaths in
The hot cup of tea
Loneliness haunts as I
Put the empty glass below
The bench
I sometimes hear them asking
About this life
I shed a drop of tear and say
You lucky guys left me alone

A poignant write that captures the ephemerality of life. Very touching lines. Well crafted and conveyed.
