For a young man of twenty-one years,
Vincent had a heavy body,
With massive shoulders, chest,
His arms thick and powerful.
His manners were rather awkward.
He had a voluptuous mouth, but
The highlight of his personality was
His long thick, yellow red hair.
While in London, Vincent lived
In a rented house run by a widow
And her daughter named Ursula Loyer.
They ran a kindergarten for young boys,
In a cottage behind the house with a garden.
Ursula was a nineteen years old - an attractive damsel!
She was Vincent's alarm - a loud call to wake up
In the morning, and to serve him breakfast with a smile.
It is but natural for a young man to be attracted
By a pretty girl who went about her daily chores
With such charming looks, cheer, and dainty movements.
Monsieur Van Gogh fell madly in love with mademoiselle Ursula!
At Goupils & Co in London, he earned 5 pounds a month.
He worked as a clerk in the back office of the store, now,
He was to be promoted to the etchings and lithographs in front office.
Vincent was all set to propose marriage to Ursula.
He even told Mr. Obach - his boss in the store that
That he was going to get married soon.
When he met Ursula in their garden in the evening,
He mustered up all his courage and without stuttering said:
" I love you with all my heart and can only be happy if you will
Be my wife." Ursula was startled. She replied firmly in a high tone:
"Your wife? Why Monsieur Van Gogh, that's impossible! "
A Biographical Poem
Unfortunately, I had read Part 9 before reading this. However, unlike seeing the end of a movie before seeing the rest, it didn't spoil the effect. And that's a real tribute to the excellence of this series. Outstanding, Geeta!
Vincent Van Gogh was reportedly, a very emotional person. His declaration of love to Ursula stands in evidence to this. Beautifully narrated. Top score, Geeta
It gives a glimpse into the life of young Vincent whose love for Ursula was one-sided. One feels sympathetic towards Vincent. Thanks.
