When I Get To Heaven Poem by Brian Mayo

When I Get To Heaven

Rating: 5.0

When I get to heaven I'll demand to see the boss
I'll be the toughest customer he's ever run across
I'll tell him, "Keep your trinkets and your everlasting life…
Just give me fifty acres and my trusty pocket-knife! "

Sure, it sounds audacious, but I've given it some thought
And angels singing endlessly would leave me quite distraught
I have no need of mansions or of driveways paved with gold
I do not wish to my charity returned to me ten-fold.

The lord has blessed me with a mind and hands to fashion tools
These things are far more precious than a goblet set with jewels.

Should I meet the one that myth calls omnipotent and all loving, I would tear into him like the evil he has wrought. The hands and mind I use are tools, but serve to understand. Great thoughts, Brian. What more do we need than that which we possess?

OK...that was a real laugh out loud opening line in your first stanza. Seriously though Brian I love this humbling message. To be grateful for what we do have we are already very rich....10
