Wrapped In Stars And Stripes Poem by LeeAnn Azzopardi

Wrapped In Stars And Stripes

Rating: 5.0

I have been targeted by the arrows of hate
For my only crime was to be born wrapped
In stars and stripes
Ol' Betsy Ross never thought her flag
Would give anyone grief
I questioned who I am
Because I am suppose to pledge to Old Glory
But it seems alienating to me that I had to be loyal
As a child, I cried and cried to be liked
However, I never belonged
No matter how much I tried
There's nothing to try to be the same
I'll always be wrapped in Stars and Stripes

TWO: Never try to be liked, just be who you are, LeeAnn, and be grateful that you are a healthy person and have the ability to speak meaningful words from deep within.

Being different will never reduce the wholeness of our being. Purity of the heart is all that matters. A poem depicting utmost loyalty. So beautifully expressed and very touching.

Alienation is a hard feeling to live with and you convey that brilliantly. Wrapped in stars and stripes is a beautiful expression.

It's not a crime to be born in the U.S.A. and live in Canada. Everyone has different unique circumstances. My mother was born in Canada, but moved to the U.S.A. with her family at age ten. I hope you can find a way to be happy with who you are and what you have. Best wishes, LeeAnn.
