You Can Never Be Sure
Close your eyes.
And the entire universe
collapses into darkness.
You can never know for certain
whether a ghost
is drifting through the sky of your mind,
or a bee
is drinking the hidden sweetness
from the depths of your soul.
Open your eyes.
And still, you can never be sure
whether you are standing
in the radiant breath of spring
or the colorless silence of winter;
whether it is day or night,
awakening or oblivion,
life or death.
Perhaps the only truth
is that you can never be sure.
