What powerful things, are an eagle's wings,
As he soars high on currents of air.
So graceful in flight, when seen at great height,
Oh! How you wish you could be there.
Gliding supreme, in a wonderful dream,
Free as that proud bird of prey.
A beautiful sight, when his sharp eyes alight
On good food, when off on a foray.
In silence he sits, motionless, his wits
Gauging what his next move ought to be.
Such elegance and style, he hunts with such guile,
Endowed with a foolproof strategy.
His skill is top-notch he is always on watch,
For creatures that are travelling with haste.
He swoops with sheer speed, and captures his feed,
Devouring it, and loving the taste.
While he is trailblazing, he rules like a king,
The fields are his conquered domain.
A veritable speeder, a formidable leader,
In legendary splendour, long may he reign.
A very carefully crafted piece of work - the poem, and the eagle - with great balance and rhythm, and consistent internal rhymes throughout. Great attention to detail on display here, with the content matching the form perfectly! I like the insight of 'Endowed with a foolproof strategy' - the result of millions of years of work by a very thorough mother nature. You managed to place us on board there for a few minutes Ernestine. Lovely piece of writing! xx jim

A beautiful poem about a beautiful bird with great descriptive quality. Andrew x
The power of flight is something I would love to have and gain the freedom of the skies in actuality rather than in my imagination.I love all birds but the raptors hold a special place in my heart ivor
A noble and perceptive tribute to a magnificent creature also known for keen perception and nobility.
