A Universal Selfie Poem by Savita Tyagi

A Universal Selfie

Rating: 5.0

At times I just want to live for myself.
But what is It that I am living for?
The question puzzles me!
My own self seems to be divided
Never completely my own to possess.

Living for myself is like living for a mirrored self.
It shows my frontal appearance
But never what is hidden in the back,
Living for my mirrored self is like
Enjoying only a half cup of tea
And leaving the kettle untouched!

I search and search for my complete self
To know and to live united in my own being.
But I fail to grasp it.
It's never wholly mine.
Away from my mirrored self
I search myself in others.

I can't claim wholly to live for others,
Can't lose myself in the infinite number of selves.
But living for others is like watching and acting
In the infinite mirrors of Universal Life.
Each one shows a part of myself.
The shared hues of life's little pains and pleasures
Become more acceptable, more enjoyable.

My little self is center of my universe
But the worldwide scattered selves
Mirror my whole self.
A Universal Selfie - as good as it gets!

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
Faced with unusual crisis of Covid 19 most of us are trying to balance our personal needs with needs of society. Many of us do not have to face those life or death situations like doctors, nurses, and health care workers or the other hard pressed fellow workers who have to go out to work to make ends meet. My thoughts, prayers and appreciation is utmost for them. This crisis has brought most of us face to face with too many conflicting emotions and thoughts. This poem is just an attempt of shaping out some of my thoughts.

My little self is center of my universe But the worldwide scattered selves Mirror my whole self. A Universal Selfie - as good as it gets! . " Aham Brahmasmi" is the most refined thought a human being can cherish for the other occupants of the universe. The pain everyone suffers is felt to be a suffering of self. A sublime thought

Living for own self with dignity and self mirrored attitude we live in a higher realm of perception. This poem deeply reflects your inner perception. Faced with unusual crisis of Covid 19, we are isolated and each of us has started living separately. But at the same time we have responsibility. We should pray God to save us from danger. This poem is a thought provoking poem. Self realization is necessary.

Unusual crisis of Covid 19 has given us much pain and the world is crying facing such critical epidemic. We spend time in quarantine. We should be good to feel the beauty of mind when Corona Virus will go away. Let us pray before God and fight against this virus to remove this from the world.

Savita, this verse if filled with so many profound observations. I know so many people who fear being alone- precisely because that eventuality compels them to face their inner thoughts. This is an amazing verse!

My little self is center of my universe But the worldwide scattered selves Mirror my whole self. A Universal Selfie - as good as it gets! .............A thought provoking stanza. We are all united and feel the pain of the others who are suffering. Together we can fight against this Pandemic. Let us all pray for it. May God bless the whole mankind! Marvelously written poem, Savita! Big 10.

Each one is at the centre.....! But we cannot live aloof from others! Our identity will become complete only with others. We are like a jigsaw puzzle. Unless all the pieces fit together, it won't be full! In the same way we become complete only with others. A brilliant composition, Savita! A 10

Well done on so many levels. Delving into our own selves is a difficult task- rarely can we hold the light so close to our weaknesses and foibles much less our sins. I cannot imagine the selfless courage of the nurses, doctors and others on the front line of this war- they know their comrades have died yet they press on. May God bless them all and God bless you for feeling and expressing your gratitude!
