Oh, little chirpy squeaking squirrel
I see you always dressed in grey apparel
Swift as an arrow you can run
Watching you scamper the tree is fun
Is it when you are joyous and hale
That you are seen flicking your bushy tail
Along the ground and over the bough you scurry
Darting up and down in great hurry
Why do you arch your back and sniff the air
When you see someone coming near
Men seem to annoy and leave you in fear
That you take to heels in top gear
You live in the holes of boles
But rarely rest in those hollows
When the weather is warm and bright
You forage food with all your might
To beat the wintry days, you have many tactics
And it is a pleasure to watch your antics
You strive to fill your granary with nuts and grain
To this end, you are ready to take any strain
For you, living is the sole occupation
From labour, you never take any vacation
Seeing the way you move and run,
It seems you have so much energy to burn
How I like you little chirpy squirrel
Come to me, I shall feed you with nut's kernel
Oh chattering friend, you remove from my dull day
All that can leave me in possible dismay

I have mixed feelings about this tree rodent: -) Their antics delight me, but they mess up my gardens. Fantastic ode, Valsa. A 10

Squirrels are a great delight to watch and spend time. Your final stanza brings the squirrel so close to hand. I must carry some nuts.
Contd. A lovely ode dear poet. For a few days now I was thinking of your poems, that for some time I've not read one, but failed to look for one. And this one comes to my view.
Only a few days back while at Bangalore I was mad at squirrels, when they would eat away things kept for birds in a little birdie house. Now, here at Baroda I can only see them from far. But how can you be mad at them for long? And this poem says never ever.
A beautiful ode to one of the wonders of nature with great rhyme and compelling imagery. Very astute observation which makes a reader at close range with these lovely creatures. So beautifully written.
beautiful and perfect rhyme! your keen sense of observation displayed in every line! thanks for drawing my attention!

I was in a park with someone special on a sunday noon, and we were looking in awe at a couple of little squirrels that came by playing around us.. My companion is a very big fan of these little ones and I seem to love them too.. It was a special Sunday as I was out on a second date with her, and those little ones just made the whole experience even more sweeter.. I loved your poem Valsa ma'am.. It is fine ode with wonderful rhyming words.. And my personal experience and recollection of thoughts in this tranquility made me have a spontaneous smile.. Thank you for sharing.
