Bri Edwards' July 2022 Showcase Of A Few Poems I Have Enjoyed On P-H

After struggling a bit to collecf what poems are shown below,
I now, upon each and every one of you, these poems bestow.
For years, most months, I've racked my eyes and dim brain...
to try spreading poetic pleasure for your entertainment gain.

If YOU have a poem you wish for me to share with others,
perhaps one which heretofore's been hidden beneath 'covers',
send it to me in a PH message. I'll see if it tickles my fancy,
though, for some I've read here, the odds I'll like it are chancy.

The Poems and Poets:

What I Wish To Be

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
by Valsa George, who fled from PH after PH made format changes to its site 2+ years ago : (
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Let me be,
As God intended me to be:
Neither a wicked elf,
Nor a fairy godmother,
Never a demon,
Nor an angel,
But a true woman,
Oh! No, not the ‘Phenomenal Woman'
Of Maya Angelou,
Drawing a hive of honey bees round
‘With the span of my hips
Or the stride of my steps'
But,
One with a loving heart,
Calm and caring
Though at times touchy and itchy

A gracious host and a helpful neighbour
Able to stand in my own light
And lessen the darkness of the night

An abiding spouse
In whom my man can see
An ocean of love in my dewy eyes
And feel the steady warmth of my grip
When the seas of life get stormy,

For my children, an adorable mother
In whom they can confide
Their doubt, despair or delight
A counsellor, a friend and guide
With the balm to heal their wounds
Touch and move their spirits
And show them the miracle of love

Piecing together these different roles
Let me, into a close knit texture, weave
The fabric of my life
Like the interlacing threads
Of a great tapestry!

In a way, is not living the art of quilting
Bringing out unique patterns
Of exquisite beauty and delight
From the scraps thrown in our way!

A Smile To Remember

-----------------------------------------------------------
by Charles Bukowski, who probably never saw PH in his lifetime
--------------------------------------------------------------------

we had goldfish and they circled around and around
in the bowl on the table near the heavy drapes
covering the picture window and
my mother, always smiling, wanting us all
to be happy, told me, 'be happy Henry! '
and she was right: it's better to be happy if you
can
but my father continued to beat her and me several times a week while
raging inside his 6-foot-two frame because he couldn't
understand what was attacking him from within.

my mother, poor fish,
wanting to be happy, beaten two or three times a
week, telling me to be happy: 'Henry, smile!
why don't you ever smile? '

and then she would smile, to show me how, and it was the
saddest smile I ever saw

one day the goldfish died, all five of them,
they floated on the water, on their sides, their
eyes still open,
and when my father got home he threw them to the cat
there on the kitchen floor and we watched as my mother
smiled

Suggested Re-Write For A Poem By Valsa George

---------------------------------------------------------------------
by WES vogler, another poet to flee PH : (
---------------------------------------------------------------

A woman ran into the balcony
Husband ran behind yelling... 'Stop, Honey
Why are you so dumb?
Kindly do not jump
Our car's right below, think of the money.'

On the balcony a woman appears
It is just as her poor husband fears
'Good heavens above...
If you must jump, my love,
Let me move the car first.' (he's in tears)

Bye-Bye Jimmy

--------------------------------------------------------------
by Bri Edwards, who is ME, unashamed to show off my poetry along with the others, and who is STILL HERE, plugging along, since PH's 'changes' to its format, though with less enthusiasm and less contentment especially since too many of my PH friends and some of PH's best poets, I think, have departed (some died I think) .
-------------------------------------------------------------------

Two days ago out our window in the morning
a unique event appeared to me without warning.
Among the trees, of our neighbor's southern slope,
I spied a large deer which I felt had little hope
of making it to the next day's dawning.

I saw it prostrate, its head weakly raised a bit.
One large ear moved but was about to quit.
One proud antler rose above its head,
but I thought 'this buck is nearly dead.
It will cause no more springtime 'fawning'.'

My wife was near me and I alerted her.
By the time she looked, the deer did not stir.
But she thought he was alive and that he looked her way.
She may have been correct, but who can really say?
She named him 'Jimmy'. I don't know why.

My wife urged me to write this farewell note,
the first such poem I ever wrote.
Two days have passed and Jimmy lies there cold,
no longer roaming hillsides, no longer bold.

Bri Edwards Eaten By Aliens
----------------------------------------------------------
by ever-anxious-to-please poet Kim Barney, devoted poet, self-promoter (nothing wrong with THAT) , and chess player
-----------------------------------------------------------------------

Three aliens feasting on Bri
had made quite a mess of the guy.
The first of them said,
as he chewed on the head:
'This doesn't taste that good at all.'
The second one sneezed
as he gnawed on the knees,
but the third one was having a ball!

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM

Last night in bed, I felt some anxiety which I attributed to his and my poems about me and aliens. They actually were close to really scaryl

A woderful showcase of Bri Edwards ! I liked Valsa George's poem very much.Valsa George is the most prolific poet of Poemhunter website. It is a pity that she has stopped posting new poems here. This showcase shows how we are missing her and it will introduce her poems to newcomers.

As for Valsa being 'the most prolific', if you mean with the most poems, I'm sure you are mistaken, but perhaps she has the most poems that I like. : )
