Bri Edward's September 2022 Showcase Of Poems Bri Liked On P-H....[ Poems, Old And New, Shared With You ]

Rating: 5.0

It's only August [a month named after royalty], ... but I have
the time to compose,
so I'll write my introductory poem to this showcase. Some
may read; who knows?
My showcase-readership has sunken from the numbers which
in years past did visit.
And I THINK attention to poems on P-H has also, but 'tis not
the World's End. IS IT? ?

I won't give the reason(s) behind my 'thought' (see 'THINK'...
above) ; you needn't know.
But some others here feel as I do on this, and to some of
them it's more of a blow...
than it is to ME, thank goodness. At least P-H's free, but
that doesn't make all right.
The changes made nearly two years ago here, helped to
cause here a general blight.

Since I won't have as much time, as I've had these two weeks,
for my monthly frolic,
I'll make my effort (to share here) less long, & hope it causes
not one case of colic.
I plan no longer to place the poems' texts here. only giving
title and author's name.
If this doesn't suit YOU, you have others......and perhaps
YOURSELF... to blame.

OK, don't YOU go crying and 'wringing your hands'.
'Tis NOT the World's End!

IS IT?

The Ravishing Rain

[ Bri's Notes on the Poem ]

The author has supplied a fairly comprehensive review of the weather phenomenon we call RAIN, and related topics. Her rhyming, and 'sexual suggestions', and clever references to some 'sayings' I've heard in years gone by, her sometimes fanciful writing, AND her charming illustrations made me choose this for my showcase.

Bri's Search For A Surgeon

[ Bri's Notes on the poem ]

I gave the Poet the facts about my on child, my desire to have no more children, and the last name of the doctor. I believe I did NOT search by name, but by specialty, Urology, and his office location. The surgery was in his office, while I was awake, took little time, and my recovery time was short. The author did a fine job adding to the poem some Fiction and Fun. My vasectomy, performed in 1981, was a great success and a 'blessing' for my future. ]

Twilight Thoughts

[Bri's Notes on the Poem]

The author poetically 'compares' the rising-and-setting Sun, our closest star, to the birth and death of humans. Of course we only 'set' once, I THINK, .....not counting sleep cycles. I enjoyed the rhyming. This may be helpful advice for humans, especially ones, like me, who are nearing, ...step by plodding step, ... our own 'settings'. Good night.
[ I 'must' remember to save my Notes elsewhere, as I THINK I lost those I typed into PH earlier today! ! ]

The Monster

[ Bri's Notes on the Poem ]

This poem is a quick read with very nice rhyming. It seems to be 'set' in a rural area at a farm, but also refers to winds around the world. The author 'spins a tale' of WINDS around her, both calm winds and vicious winds, aka moving air caused my Nature; I still believe in 'natural' winds, unlike some who believe some winds are manmade. I produce a lot of 'hot air' at times, but THAT is different!
Caution: PH lists about 4 other 'Monster' poems. AND using PH's 'Search anything' box did NOT work for me to find the poem, sometimes, though it worked well to find the author's page. Sometimes clicking/tapping on the magnifying glass symbol next to 'Search anything' does not work, and I resort to clicking on my keyboard's 'Enter' key, a trick I learned from PH -pal Kim Barney.

Old Fashioned Christmas

[ Bri's Notes on the Poem ]

I say: 'Where did the Notes go which I THOUGHT I'd sent already to the showcase? ? ? '
Well, 'reconstructing them may help slow your slide into senility', my neurologist may say. 'Please pay my receptonist.'

Ok. This poem IS about Christmas, another belief I've given up since childhood.
But the author writes it with a 'twist', adding some activities to the occasion which some revelers may now participate in since two years ago. Some readers may be amused, as I was. Others may be shocked and/or disappointed in this young Parisian poet's Christmas. It's short and shouldn't hurt too much, nonetheless.

Two Travellers

[ Bri's Notes on the Poem ]

And here we have an author whose name on PH is composed of ALL CAPITAL LETTERS! This short-but-not-too-short poem introduces to me for the first time (that I recall) a character (I don't call it a person) with a name beginning with capital 'D', but it is not Death. The other two characters are two humans who make similar but very different journeys while neither steps outside of a building. You'll probably relate to one or both of the 'travellers'; I did. I see no rhymes in the poem, but I can be pleased with poems with few or no rhymes. This poem pleased me. Sometimes I've read poems with nice-sounding rhymes, but the rhymes are not needed and may even cause some other component of the poem to suffer.

7 - Poem by Darlene Walsh

The Monster Within

[ Bri's Notes on the Poem ]

Darlene was a favorite poet and person for me on PH; she left the site some years back for family reasons I believe. In her
poem, to which I believe she has a sequel, she writes 'in the
first person' [but NOT about herself] about a fatal disease another family member had. The rhyming and rhythm, and the 'story', a true one I believe', make the poem an outstanding one for me.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------

8 - Poem by Alfred Lord Tennyson

The Charge Of The Light Brigade

[ Bri's Notes on the Poem ]

Written in the 1800's, this driving poem with some nice alliterations and fine rhyming, tells of the ** 'disastrous British cavalry charge against heavily defended Russian troops at the Battle of Balaklava (1854) during the Crimean War (1853-56) '.

The poem is not gory, though the clashes between mounted troops (on horses) and the meeting of bullets, blades, and shells with human flesh was. Not all of the '600 British' troops died as a result, but enough! I suggest readers might 'like' to do some history ** researching after or before reading the poem by this famous author.

Pandemic Limericks

[ Bri's Notes on the Poem ]

The author, with whom I used to be much closer on PH [perhaps he, too, has disappeared from this site], submitted this in 2021. He has inserted some humour/humor into the event many have called the Covid Pandemic. It is a medical/social event worldwide which many believe is 'real' while some/'perhaps many' say is 'not real'. In either case 'it' has caused untold inconvenience to many people. My thanks to the author for this 'insertion', done with a keyboard, not with a needle. ;)

p.s. Unfortunately, I'm pretty sure many living in this 'time of masks and social distancing' can relate to some of the limericks.

p.p.s. I've a poem Bri Interviews Ms. Covid 19 …..[ Health; News Reporting; Medium Length; Truth Or Fiction? ]

10 - Poem by Sarojini Naidu (b.1870 - d.1949)

Indian Weavers

[ Bri's Notes on the Poem ]

This poem, by a famous native of India, (b.1870 - d.1949) ,
uses its twelve beautifully-rhyming lines to touch upon three of the most significant events of many peoples' lives. It has a graceful flow and highlights Indian Weavers and their work.

[ I found Tennyson and Naidu in a PH list of famous poets. ]

---------------------------------------------------------------

11 - Poem by Rabindranath Tagore (b.1861 - d.1941)

Clouds And Waves

[ Bri's Notes on the Poem ]

'The name Tagore is the anglicised transliteration of Thakur.' Tagore is another famous poet I found listed on PH. He had a huge white beard, but I don't think that is why he was given a Nobel Prize
His poem's title misled me. It does mention clouds and waves, but they seem to be part of a young boy's fantasy. They try to entice him to leave his mother and join them. Read the poem and discover what the boy decides to do.

Showcase Of Poems Of August 2022: Some P-H Poems I've Enjoyed Recently, And Now Share With You!

[ Bri's Notes on the Poem ]

Another 11 poems (not counting my 'Introductory Poem') await your attention in what I call my August 2022 Showcase. I think SOME of these eleven poems have actually been 'down on their knees' awaiting YOU. But, do not fear Bri's nor THEIR anger, as 'we' understand PH members have 'other things' to attend to (like breakfast, lunch/dinner, and supper) . I've also not been taking time to advertise my showcases recently. The 'old version' of PH made it much easier for me to announce a new showcase to members on my 'friends list'.

The Charge of the Light Brigade was one of my favorites when young. I had much of it memorized at one time.

Bri, your poem makes it sound like something has, and is, brewing in the air. I've felt that since the beginning of this year. Bri, your showcases have always been great. Looking forward to this upcoming one. Thanks for your efforts!
