Now as the candle flickers and
The wick is burning low,
Amidst the still and darkened room
Lit only by its glow,
I try to write a letter but
The pain too much to bear,
For I just can't express my love
When she's no longer there.
A blank page lies before me on
The table stained with tears,
I stare upon the candle for
Its end now slowly nears,
The flame is growing taller and
The scarlet wax does run,
Right down the silver holder on
My letter yet begun.
And now it's getting very late
The stars do light the sky,
I stare out from my window as
The night now passes by,
Yet still the words don't come to me
I've nothing left to say,
And so I watch the candle as
It slowly fades away.
Your poem shines in the light of your dying candle, Andrew. A poignant metaphor for loss and yearning, your 'Candle' is a thoroughly satisfying read. So sad. love, Allie ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥
Me too Andrew I love it I got cold shivers in the second verse. Well written, you have a kind heart and it comes through in your words. Regards Ann
Andrew, as I read this, I could feel the sadness comming over you as you tried your very best to write.. The Candle says so much with so little on paper.. The flicker intensify your yearning to have the happiness you once had, and it drips on the candlestick as your heart drips of pain... Very tender and pened with much sadness and tears... But remember there is always another flicker to light up another day... Bonnie
Andrew, I particularly like the image of the candle and the mood it paints in my mind. You brought to life feelings we have, that we are unable to express. As usual your rhythm and rhyme are simply perfect. Karin Anderson
A poem burning so bright Andrew. This is wonderful to read and has that poignant air about it. A delight to find. Have been off line as my computer had to go to the PC Doctor as I could not get onto the internet at all due to a corrupt file in the Internet Explorer which affected BT Broadband too. Love and hugs Ernestine XXX
An excellent poem...touching...pain dripping out from the burning heart...10
