I Still Remember Seeing Through The Window Poem by Hira Akhtar

I Still Remember Seeing Through The Window

Rating: 5.0

I still remember that ghastly night
When a sudden shriek woke me up
With a fear eating me up inside
I ran towards her door
She was preparing to leave me
My princess, she used to call me
How can you, then, do this?
I wanted to ask her, squealing
I was told to remain outside the room
Waiting for the flowers of hope, to bloom
Rushed towards the window,
Held the handles tight and pressed my face against the glass
Cried my heart out, seeing those hands trembling
That once had fed me, dressed me and prayed for me
Those eyes rolling back that had looked at me, dotingly
Those pale silent lips, that had once kissed me and talked to me
My mind flashed back;
To the day my heart sank as you left me in school for the very first time
To the day, I cried when you stayed at a relative's house for a night
To the time, you used to be angry with me
To the time, you used to love me
To the time, I slept on your lap
To the time, I cried at your slap
To the time, you taught me right from wrong
To the time, you made me strong
To the time, you started losing your hair
To the time, your pain, you couldn't bear
To the time, you cried and begged God to heal you
To the time, you kissed me for the last time

I still remember seeing through the window
