Jayadeva's Geeta Govinda - A Love Song 19 Poem by Geeta Radhakrishna Menon

Jayadeva's Geeta Govinda - A Love Song 19

Rating: 5.0

Radhika's anger subsides, as the Sakhi pacifies her most soothingly.
Yet, sighing deeply, very often, she stares at her Sakhi's face, in a shy and subdued manner.
At dusk, Krishna reaches Radha's side and pours forth his pent-up desires in a joyous outburst of words.

The darkness and fear in my mind is dispelled,
With the gleam of your shining teeth when you speak,
My eyes stare at you like the Chakora bird,
Longing for the touch of your sensuous lips!
"Priye Charusheele! Adorable and noble!
Leave thy unreasonable anger behind."

Kama's fiery arrows cause burning desires in me,
It does not matter if you are still angry with me,
But do embrace me and hold me tight!
No matter, if you cause bruises on my body with your nails,
Or hurt me with your sharp teeth.
Do whatever that pleases you!
"Priye Charusheele! Adorable and noble!
Leave thy unreasonable anger behind."

You are my jewel, my life,
You are the diamond of my very existence,
Remain with me forever, please!
My heart begs you for this honour.
"Priye Charusheele! Adorable and noble!
Leave thy unreasonable anger behind."

Even though your eyes are swollen with fatigue and anger,
They look beautiful like the blue lotus.
But now, they are like the red hibiscus flower,
Livid with anger!
I am ripe with Kama's insinuations of love.
"Priye Charusheele! Adorable and noble!
Leave thy unreasonable anger behind."

The pearl necklace decorating your full-formed breasts,
Melts your heart with its coolness
The hip girdle chiming rhythmically
Can be considered as an order given by Kamadeva
"Priye Charusheele! Adorable and noble!
Leave thy unreasonable anger behind."

Tell me, Radhika!
Can I apply red shoe flower essence on your feet,
Which are more beautiful than the blue- lotus itself?
This will fill my heart with immense mirth!
"Priye Charusheele! Adorable and noble!
Leave thy unreasonable anger behind."

Place your feet on my head
Like a rich crown,
Destroying Kama's toxic arrows!
In me, burns the fire of love like the scorching sun!
Do quench my thirst of passionate love.
"Priye Charusheele! Adorable and noble!
Leave thy unreasonable anger behind."

This fervent love song of intoxicating words
Spoken by Krishna to Radhika,
And sung by Jayadeva- Padmavati's beloved husband
An expression of love for his darling wife,
Ever remains, so profound and perfect!

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
When my dearest mother made her transition from this world on 25th March 2002, I was heart broken. That very night, I conceived this idea of translating Jayadeva's Geeta Govinda and I took it upon myself to offer it to the world, as a memorial to my mother.

This famed song of Geeta Govinda has been translated by me from Sanskrit to English.
I published this work in the form of a book in 2002. The second Edition was published in 2006 and later, the third edition came out in 2010.
I am now happy to publish it in Poem Hunter for the poetry lovers.
