Just A Little Boat In A Huge Sea.... Poem by Susan Williams

Just A Little Boat In A Huge Sea....

Rating: 5.0

....
Just a little tiny battered and paint-peeling boat
forgotten
and tied to the dock for season after season
creaking in the waves, bumping against the dock
and groaning in the moonlight
late last night, the ropes tying me to the dock
worked loose and fell away from the iron cleats
and I drifted slowly away from my berth and slipped quietly through the low murmuring sea
passing slowly away from the land and its sandy beaches and its castles and its bonfires and its slow loving in the dark while the waves lapped against the shore and spoke beauty into our hearts
I drifted and drifted, dipping gently up and down in the quiet waves under the quiet stars under the silent night so suddenly peaceful
my little boat taking me on a journey
a soft and gentle journey
into a velvet peace
so far away from the berth at that worn-out pier
riding that soothing current taking me gently out to sea
and into the final velvet starry night
while the quiet, gentle, waves undulated lulling me to sleep
lulling me to dream soft velvet dreams as I drift farther and farther from shore until I can no longer see it or the berth in the old pier or the sandy beach where I played once upon a time but no more
farewell my friends--my little boat is quietly and gently taking me on a new voyage

Indeed, Bill, we are each other's forever friend... met so many years ago over one of your first born poems... We've traveled many a rough sea together along with a number of happy successful days... let us make a pact to see many more years of poetry together---

A very moving portrayal of life's journey showing everything is just ephemeral. Our life can be changed by fate or by our choices in life. Top Marks and to my favorites.
