Kathy's Clown (Limerick Version)

Rating: 5.0

You'll never know how much you hurt me.
I never thought you would desert me
For a stupid guy like Paul.
Did you ever care at all?
He was a cad to thus subvert me.

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
Toward the end of my freshman year of college, I started dating a skinny, very cute girl named Kathy. I was really starting to like her. We had a date one night to go to the movies or somewhere, but she stood me up because Paul asked her to go with him. Paul was a big star on the football team, and I was only a 130-lb. member of the wrestling team.

I was devastated. At the time, the Everly Brothers song 'Cathy's Clown' was popular, and it became my favorite song for a while.

I don't remember if Kathy came back to that school the next year or not, but I never dated her again. It was all right. I got over it. I wasn't ready to get married at that young age anyway, but at the time, I thought my world had ended. I met my wife-to-be about four or five years later and we have been happily married for almost fifty years now.

That's how it goes some times. No rulebook or instruction manual for life.: -)

You'll never know how much you hurt me. I never thought you would desert me For a stupid guy like Paul. Deserting one for the other has shockingly been a trend over millennia, the most painful event for a living being. Thanks poet for sharing this beautiful limeric.10 marks for it.
