Kathy's Clown (Sonnet Version)

Rating: 5.0

You'll never know just how much you hurt me;
I wonder if you ever cared at all.
I never dreamed you would just desert me
In favor of that lousy cad named Paul.

I guess it's not his fault; he never knew
A single thing about me, who I was.
He didn't know I had a date with you;
He was another victim of your claws.

When someone 'better' showed, you dumped Paul too;
You never could see what you did was wrong.
All of us learned we never could trust you;
You were the inspiration for a song.

You, girl, became the cause of many frowns,
And I became the first of Kathy's clowns.

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
Cathy's Clown
The Everly Brothers

Don't want your love anymore
Don't want your kisses, that's for sure
I die each time I hear this sound
Here he comes, that's Cathy's clown

I've got to stand tall, you know a man can't crawl
For when he knows you're telling lies
And he hears them passing by
He's not a man at all

Don't want your love anymore
Don't want your kisses, that's for sure
I die each time I hear this sound
Here he comes, that's Cathy's clown

When you see me shed a tear
And you know that it's sincere
Don't you think it's kinda sad that you're treatin' me so bad
Or don't you even care?

Don't want your love anymore
Don't want your kisses, that's for sure
I die each time I hear this sound
Here he comes, that's Cathy's clown

That's Cathy's clown
That's Cathy's clown

I originally wrote the poem as a limerick, but it was a sad limerick, and limericks aren't supposed to be sad, so I got to thinking that maybe I could try to rewrite it as sonnet.

As I explained with the original poem, I was dating this girl named Kathy, and one evening when I went to pick her up for our date, she told me that she was going out with Paul instead. I was shocked that she would do that to me, and the Everly Brothers song Cathy's Clown became my favorite song.

Looks like Kathy wasn't a very nice person..you where all better off without her kind...love the song though.

I also dated a Kathy in High School. She went to college a different direction from me, so further dating would have been impractical. We said goodby and I never saw her again. Thanks for the memories.
