Last Bumpy Ride - Poem by Gordon Jerome

If I told you the world would end in a day
Could you find for your enemy a kind word to say
Or would you instead continue your fight
And cloud out the beauty of your last starry night
Could you find the forgiveness lost long ago
Or have for a stranger some compassion to show
Might you find a reason to lay down your arms
And help keep the world from their dreadful harms
Could you share a meal with one that has not
Can you give of yourself everything that you've got
Might you ask your enemy to sit by your side
And as friends face together this last bumpy ride.
'closing thought'
From the path of peace we must try never to stray
For our lives have no meaning if we just throw them away
