The politics here are quite rotten.
I can't earn my keep
By tending my sheep
But at least I can sell lots of cotton!

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
Most of the irrigated land in Turkmenistan is planted with cotton. It is the world's ninth-largest cotton producer, even though the country is smaller than Spain and just larger than the State of California in the United States of America.
