My Black People (C) 3-12-08

Hello my name is Corey and there's something I'd like to share
We've come a long way since fighting so rights would be fair
We had many helpers such as, Martin Luther King
Who helped many of my black people let freedom ring
Many know him from his "I have a Dream" speech and his actuality
But he didn't just speak of a dream, he spoke of a soon to come reality
Malcolm X confronted the "White Man" on News broadcasts, and on Radios
Because he knew of the fairness of black and white people's ratios
Rosa Parks from Montgomery, Alabama risked getting thrown into jail
All for the plan of segregation on buses to fail,
Freedom riders helped outlaw segregation in interstate bus travel.
Sit-ins ended segregation in restaurants and things started to unravel.
Many acts of civil rights opened many doors for my Black people.
Unfortunately many of our civil rights activists died to be equal

Martin Luther King assassinated, Malcolm X assassinated and for what?

For us, so that we could have the "Rights the same as Whites"
But how are we treating the freedom that took so long for us to fight
Well let's see Marvin Q. Howard gunned down on Feb.18,2007.
Runaway children beginning at the young age of eleven
20-year-old Cheektowaga man is dead after he was gunned down
Missing Children that no one has yet cared to found
One student killed in a brawl outside high school, one shot dead,
Gang related fight left a teenage boy shot in the head
Devonte Murray shot on September 24,2007 going to the store
See do you understand what are all these killings for
many people say "It's all a conspiracy the White man wants us gone".
Maybe but it really helps that we feed into to what they put us on
What race has the most cases of AIDS and has the greatest crime rate?
Who has the most murders and who does most races hate?
Us we have it and it's because everyone thinks killing and sexin is cool
But to anyone who thinks that is nothing short of a fool
I sit in class and all I hear is who had sex with or fought who
And then we wonder why White people say that's all we do

Why are these things like main necessities for Black America?

Many people say well Cassidy killed somebody and he's still famous
So why can't I hold a gun and to someone's head I aim it
Or so and so talks about his guns all the time so why can't I?
And I'm from this block and I'll rep it I don't care if I can die
Do you think if most of these rappers did what they say in their rhymes
That they'd get away with committing so much of these terrible crimes
No, half these rappers never even got into a fight before.
See it's easy to write if you're creative enough and that's for sure
Some say I gotta survive in the streets but that's what houses are for.
The only thing we should avoid is being ignorant, low down, and poor
You have these Gangs that are not colors they're this street vs. street.
Then people get killed without even knowing the people they meet
Do you think the civil rights activists cared about the street you lived on?
Do you think Martin Luther King cared about what street you lived on?
Do you think he would want to see these crime rates and statistics,
Don't you think if they saw this Martin would probably go ballistic
Malcolm X wouldn't want to see that he was killed for no reason
People that would get charged battery, theft, murder, and treason
I wouldn't think so, because if they did then what did they die for?
What did they sacrifice and what did they waste so much time for?
Obama was elected president and you all jumped around reciting chants
But its unfortunate that the same day you still can't hold up your pants
The same day I saw a fight between two friends over some girl
Now if your doing this how is Obama supposed to change the world
A day away a man went stray to say because he didn't want to stay
A fray on play when the man could never ever see the light of day
See it's all in vain, unless we rise up and turn over a new leaf,
My Black brothers and Sisters let's turn down Statistics
Let's turn down rates and stereotypes to rise and be
The civilized people that I know we can be.
