My Mistress - Poem by gary bennett

Parked aside
the swollen Yellowstone
as the sun sets
over the Bighorns
Montana is putting
on her PJ's

I said goodbye to Wyoming
in my mirrors
and thanked
the Cowboy State
for getting me home safe.

Tired but content
I think of you,
my ususal routine.

I drift well here
in the smallness
of her vast landscape
and feel the intesity
of our love
as it becomes
as big as her sky.
