Racing Towards Forever - Poem by Mary Nagy

This silent ache
scares me
I should
feel happiness
to know
we have until
scares me
What happens
after forever
is zipping by
so fast
and out of control
I can't
slow it down
Have you
ever stood
next to
a subway car
at top speed
and want
to stop it
with your
bare hands
I don't think
it can be done
that's more
dangerous than
a moving subway
we can't
touch time
we can't
jump in
and slam
on the brakes
I never thought
the day
would come
where forever
just doesn't seem
long enough
that day
is here
will be
I know this
Please ignore
the fat tears
that race
down my cheeks
as you say
we'll be together

Wow, good stuff, Mary... I can certainly relate, sometimes forever doesn't feel long enough. Well done!

To badly paraphrase Jack Kerouac from Desolation Angels: As soon has everything is good and going alright, it falls apart and it is that falling apart that causes such sadness. Time is brief, we mostly suffer and fail and then sleep for eternity, our words gone. (Report) Reply

I think that there is a spirtual part of all of us that carries on.I would be happy to see you there when we arrive, all could, throw away their baggage and set free into the garden of love and light.Love Duncan (Report) Reply

It's all to do with age Mary, the older you get the nearer you get to forever, and it starts impinging on your mind. Try to live for the day, and try not to think about what tomorrow may or may not bring, I've learnt this over the past few weeks. A very well constructed and thoughtful poem, I loved it. Your usual great write, straight from the heart. Love and hugs Ernestine XXX (Report) Reply

When you get to forever, think of all the memories you'll have forever.
