St. Nicholas Celebrations In The Netherlands....

....with the problems still in the country,
Sint and Piet stroll through the Netherlands, true story
head chagrin or laugh-too-much
dunno or that foal squints as such
We are finally home in Deutekum leisure
with Jany and René it is always very cozy and much pleasure
our annual rituals
are always mutuals
never with a lot of squabbling
Sint and Piet still find it a blessing
to do this, now that the fog has gone, the sun appears and no rain
Sint has something very special for you now, so do not complain
Sint has done all efforts
and his Piet is using these great supports

best greetings from

St. Nicholas and Piet

(mostly are the rhymes very simple, but the verse has to have RHYMES whether that sounds silly or not, added to the package given on 5 Dec)

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
The place to find these celebrations is The Netherlands.
The person who treats the presents and toys to children is Sinterklaas or St. Nicholas.
He comes every year from Spain accompanied by his helper,
his name is Piet
In the week of the 20 November he arrives in the Netherlands
most of the times with a steamboat in one of the cities along a river
All children under the 10 years with their parents are awaiting this good old man with his long white beard and mustache
From this day on, the celebrations start in every house hold
Every kid who is not naughty will get a present according to his wish-list.
On 5 December whole Netherland is celebrating his Birthday with giving each other a small present added with a simple rhymed verse, the kids get greater packages mostly, according to his wish-list: a toy, a game or some other toys of what they wish and have asked for.
On the night before the 5th of December they get these packages or toys in their shoes they have put under their beds.
Adults celebrate this day with small presents and a short verse with simple rhymes. The verse is always about the content of the present.

On the 6th December this "good old holy man" will return to his home.
The celebrations are then finished.

Above is an example of the rhymed verse, mostly the presents are letters of delicious dutch chocolate with the famous brands like Van Houten, Verkade, De Ruyter and the like.

I try to explain what this SINTERKLAAS celebration is.

Please ask if my explanation is not clear enough.
Thank you so much to all readers outside the Netherlands,

What a wonderful poem for Christmas. A poem for all especially children. I just saw the movie, Christmas Story. A great movie about St. Nicolas. And this poem in just few words gave a full knowledge on what St. Nicolas did to spread the true spirit of Christmas; gift giving.
