Summer - Poem by lesley herrera

The bright hot sun burns down on me

Beaming rays suffocating my air

Sticky sweat rolls off my brow

Burning salt into my eyes

My mouth is parched dry as the desert

Weak sickness turns my stomach

Dreaming, yearning for the cool refreshing rain

Sweet intoxicating coolness of rain

Beautiful pink tulips droop in sadness

Only the moisture of the rain

Brings them from the closeness of death

The water rejuvenates life and their beauty emerges

The rain nourishes life the heat brings death

This is the cycle of life in summer
