Tears. Poem by Nabakishore Dash
Tears.
Tear is the fluid
that trickles down
from the lacrimal
glands present above
the eye balls in most
land vertebrates and some
marine mammals.
Its main function
is cleansing and lubricating
the eye surface of the
respective animals.
Tears contain water
dissolved salts, antibodies,
saline in taste.
Hence Buddha, the enlightened one,
said that the human caste is one
as the blood is red and tear
is salty in all,
the difference created is man made,
must be erased.
Basal tears,
similar to blood plasma composition,
fight against bacterial infection.
Reflex tears are exuded
by irritation of eye surface
by foreign substance like
onion vapour, teargas,
peppery sprays, and perfumes
for washing the irritants.
Emotional tears contain more
stress hormones,
shed during sorrows
is crying tear,
shed in extremely joyful states
is tears of joy and
tears of anger.
Added to those biological types
is the fourth tear type,
the crocodile tears, not shed,
only said for
public consumption.
Political bosses
and crooked people use to mourn
the death of renowned
personalities, passengers,
war soldiers,
no compathy, no emotion.
