The Creator's clock And The Modern Man. Poem by Nabakishore Dash

The Creator's clock And The Modern Man.

Rating: 5.0

The endogenous circadian
clock is neither
mechanical nor digital,
has neither hands nor
can be hanged and worn
on the wrists.
It's the natural clock embedded
particularly in an exceedingly
small part of hypothalamus
of our brains as
discovered by scientists.

It is a censor,
receives its inputs
from different intensities
of light from the external world
through eyes and optic nerves,
regulates our sleep-wake cycle
by secreting cortisol that activates us in morning
and melatonin that
makes sleepy at night
on twenty four hours basis.
Hormone release, eating habits
and digestion, body temperature
are also influenced as revealed
after prolonged analysis.

This clock is sensitive to blue
light emanating from LED bulbs,
televisions, computers,
smart phones to which we,
the modern men, are exposed.
Constant luminosity in the day
and beyond in offices, shopping
centres disturbs our biological clock,
cause serious health hazards
like insomnia, obesity, diabetes,
depression for which human centric lighting(HCL) is being researched.

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
Natural light is the best, no doubt, for our body's biological clock and hence research for HCL is being done.

A beautiful poem on scientific insight about our biological clock and how blue light emissions from LED light and computers are posing health hazards for human beings.
