The Knife - Το Μαχαίρι
I drank the last sip of my wine
letting your name
fly out from my mouth
along with my breath
A nightingale
entered through my window
"She 'll never be yours "
it sang
"Cursed feathered bard
How can your heavenly melody
bring such a bitter message
Leave my home at once! "
The bloody bird flew away
And I'm all alone again
Without you, without the
uncomfortable company
of my singing torturer
Alone with a knife
starving for my veins
Ρούφηξα την τελευταία του κρασιού γουλιά
Αφήνοντας το όνομά σου
να πετάξει από το στόμα μου
μαζί με την αναπνοή μου
Ένα αηδόνι
μπήκε απ' το παράθυρό μου
"Ποτέ δική σου δε θα γίνει"
τραγούδησε
"Καταραμένε φτερωτέ βάρδε
Πώς μπορεί η ουράνια μελωδία σου
τόσο πικρό να φέρνει μήνυμα
Φύγε απ' το σπίτι μου αμέσως! "
Το απαίσιο πουλί πέταξε μακριά
Και είμαι μόνος μου ξανά
Χωρίς εσένα, χωρίς την
στενάχωρη παρέα
του τραγουδιστού βασανιστή μου
Μόνος με ένα μαχαίρι
που για τις φλέβες μου λυσσά

Great poem, full of drama... and in the end, a choice in the glint of a knife.
The grief of lost love brought to bear so dramatically and well. Simply beautiful, dear poet.
The superb imagery made me feel like I was in a movie seeing the tragic events woven in this marvelous poem. So poignant. Loss of love and deep sorrow were brilliantly portrayed . 10++and on to my Poem List.

Dramatically tragic, but wonderfully written. The images just come alive and we feel and see the scene. A great poem by a great poet.
