The Painful Goodbye - Poem by Annette Njoki

I look at you as you stand by the door steps
I open my mouth to wish you well
A hard lump swells in my throat
The words refuse to come out
Tears burn at the back of my eyes
If only i could tell you what i feel
and why this has to be
A painful goodbye

You are the one that filled this space
Emptiness is starting to dropp by
Memories of what we shared
Laughter from a distance
I want to say i want you back
Hold your hand and bring you back
Pride cant give me space
I know its going to be
A painful goodbye
