Politician pouncing
with a mike on podium
Born on a dark dense night
Held in a jail
for murder and extortion
Planning to increase
earth’s plight.
‘End of world
misery is nigh’
Said the man
sans more
To raise
the world high
he was born,
he swore
There will be
no hunger and poverty
and forever
cessation of grief
There will be
no rape and robbery
Loudly declared the thief.
Thus unknowingly
hastening everlasting day
for night is darkest
before dawn, Anjali says

I like this verse so much I think it could stand on its own as a poem: 'There will be no hunger and poverty and forever cessation of grief There will be no rape and robbery Loudly declared the thief.'

This is a very well and cleverly written poem, Anjali, not so subtlely outling one of our society's biggest problems: crooked politicians! Sadly, when most are caught for corruption and dishonesty, they are given only a slap on the hand, instead of being punished with a long jail term for violating the public's trust. All in all, a very fine poem. Carl.
