Those little sorrows and fears of childhood
those little joys...
all the fetching smiles and tears
all the little toys...
Where have they gone?
where are they now?
those naughty pranks and games and song
are nowhere found.
My heart is bound to have them all.
My doll Aleena used to sing a lovely song
'Happy children! sing you now...'
My heart screams:
O, busy Life!
where have you lost my pretty doll
with hazel eyes and silky golden ponytails?
you have devoured my aeroplane,
my dog, my train, my lovely teddy bears...
for them I used to laugh, for them
I used to shed my tears
I love recalling carefree days,
I love recalling joys;
I still recall my pretty past
I still recall my Toys! ! !
iT REMINDS ME OF THE POEM tOYS I READ AS A SCHOOL GIRL. IT'S ABOUT A FATHER WHO DISMISSES HIS CHILD IN A MOOD OF ANGER N HOW THE LIL ONE FINDS SOLACE SLEEPING WITH TOYS SPREAD AROUND HIS BED!
I have met people who have many of their childhood toys and stuffed animals. I have none, part of the pirate in me I imagine, just leave things behind. Very touching poem about the carefree days of childhood and the harsh truth and reality of life.
Needs no interpretation. Thank you for this, Shahzia; it brought back warm glimmers of my childhood.
