You hoped for romance,
But you've got a friend
Be happy with that
For, in the end,
A friend will stand by you
Through thick and through thin
He'll always be quick
A helping hand to extend.
And, though Life mistreats you
Again and again
A shoulder to cry on
He's ready to lend
A true friend will nurture,
And your wounds he'll tend
He's able to help you
To be on the mend.
He'll gladly make time
With you to spend.
Please, always remember
He helped you to win.

from, friendship romance may bloom and that friendship won't end too soon you will have the best of two worlds.
Thank you, Louis. In my experience, some things are best left at friendship, although in rare cases friendship can turn into something else. But true friends are like gold, and you can't have too many of them! : -)
A friend, a helping hand, a shoulder to cry on... oftentimes, a friend is so much much better than romance which always bring tears and heartaches! Be lucky if you have a friend.... well written poem.10+
Thanks, Chito. I think sometimes that we have unrealistic, unmet expectations when it comes to romance. But since the pressure is off in a 'mere' friendship, often these friendships are surprisingly much more rewarding. Romance can really complicate things. (Plus, romance is way overrated!) : -)

You hoped for romance, but you've got a friend. Wow. Who hasn't lived this? I the words in this poem.
Why do so many ppl think that friends are a second-rate version of romance? True-Blue friends are to be cherished. They accept you unconditionally, without all the complications and expectations that accompany romance. Thanks, Ray, for your observant comment! : -)
