What wonderful woman you were, Maya Angelou!
So proud to be a woman first,
Then proud to be a woman of colour
And lastly proud to be a woman of substance!
Why did men wonder at the secrets
of your personality?
What made you so worthy, so high?
You did not have the looks of a model
But, people would stand up to give you respect
They bowed to your mighty courage
They bowed to your persona exuding self confidence.
You fought for rightful place of women in society
You fought that black men and women would not face cruelty
And would be treated by others with equality.
You were bold to opine your views
You were courageous to say it loud
That you were worthy, brave and intelligent
That you were a leader of high calibre
A leader who would carve a niche for herself
A leader oozing an aura of self confidence
A leader of real worth, who will guide and lead a way.
Great dedication there. Eloquent personality analisys. A well written piece

To stand up and fight for your rights requires courage. Few people possess that courage. I salute her for this and to your poem as well.
