An Oap - That's Me Poem by Ernestine Northover

An Oap - That's Me

Rating: 4.6

I've suddently become an OAP,
It's not something that I wanted to be,
There's nothing one can do,
It's like contracting the flu,
It's how it's crept up so fast that bothering me.

What is it that seems to give us all away,
Do we look as if we're starting to decay,
Is it just the greying hair,
Or the hearing aid we wear,
Even at our age, we still can have our day.

There are the 'National Health' prescription glasses,
And then the over 60's keep fit classes.
The super white false teeth
With the shrinking gums beneath,
We're disintegrating with every day that passes.

But, so what, we've got a fountain of experience,
And also have the time at our convenience,
To give some sound advice,
Which in fact is very nice,
We lot are certainly not without resilience.

I shall carry on and ignore the old age label,
And shall keep young and long as I am able,
I shall eat a healthy diet,
I'll go straight out and buy it,
And everyone will say I'm a Betty Grable.

Don't worry if you've become an OAP,
Things really aren't as bad, you'll soon agree,
We're still alive and kicking,
Our minds they are still ticking,
And keeping great is just our cup of tea.
