Retaining the beauty of forests with
Rich natural vegetation,
Regimented soil of wetland, marshy land,
Regular monsoon areas of union territory,
Reign as the best Eco Regions of India- The
Rain forests of Andaman Islands!
‘Gurjun'- the tall timber trees dominate
Gorgeous, lush, rain forests, while
Gentle ‘Padauk' - the shade trees embrace!
Geographically, the forests form a
Greater part of long Island Arch of Andaman
Graphically stretching from Burma to Indonesia!
Numerous species of flora and fauna
Nestle around the forest with ease,
Natural coastal and mangrove forests that please,
Native trees that dominate with their tall frame,
Neatly touching the blue horizon with their green beam,
Needful palm trees that sustain and rejuvenate with cream!
Andaman endemic birds that fly, fly in glee
Andaman Woodpecker, peck - peck,
Andaman Drongo, drong-drong,
Andaman Treepie, pie-pie-pie,
Andaman Cuckoo Dove, coov-coov-coov,
Andaman Serpent Eagle that whistles and shrills!
May the forests live forever, eternally,
May they never be polluted by human hands,
May they never be disturbed by human invasion,
May they flourish on earth generously,
May the green kingdom refresh perennially,
May the flora and fauna reign royally!
Hi Geeta, Lovely poem on the Tropical Rain Forests of Andaman. Tropical Rain Forests are very rich in variety of flora and fauna. Among the flora, we have the large trees like padauk, deodar, banyan, palm tres and the like. But we should not forget the lush undergrowth, again rich in variety. Together, they provide food for all the vegetarian fauna. Variety of flowering plants, providing flowers, fruit, nuts, roots, rhizomes, grains etc. (Contd)
Geeta, you arouse my interest in Andaman which sounds, as you describe it, like an eco-refuge, an unspoiled eden. It reminds me of a new book I was looking through on bird species new to science identified in the last fifty years—most of them from that part of the world. Your desire, expressed in the last stanza, reminds me of a poem of mine, On the Rare Capture of a Megamouth Shark, if you’re not already aware of it. Thank you for making me aware of Andaman. It touches hope in me. -Glen
For sure they will live on forever; immortalized by your wonderfully crafted poem. Thanks Geeta
Thank you Loke. You always have a kind thought and a word. Bless you.
Part 4 This abundance of flora and fauna a a very wide variety indicates that the Tropical Rain Forests have conditions best suited for life forms as existing on earth. Handed the theory that human beings also originated in these Tropical Rain Forests.
Neatly touching the blue horizon with their green beam, Needful palm trees that sustain and rejuvenate with cream! - - The rain forests are great treasure bestowed on the human race...I love the Onomatopoeias very much and share your wishes in the last stanza.
Thank you Perdita. I am so glad that you loved this poem. God bless.
Part 3 Apart from the Burma-Andaman-Indonesia belt, we have the Tropical Rain Forests in KeralA- Western Ghats, the Amazon Rain Forests in NA, etc.
This poem has not been translated into any other language yet.
I would like to translate this poem
Splendid description of the rain forest cover outstretching the island range of the Andaman & Nicobar. The large native trees which are unique to these territories as well as its flora and fauna have also come in for a lovely treatment. Above all, the birds open up their treasury of euphonious sounds. Thanks, Geeta ji, for transporting the beauty of these Islands through these poetic masterpieces.
Thank you Rajnish ji for reading my Andaman Poems. Your observation and comments are full of depth, to the point, and most importantly, very inspiring. Through your comments, i learn too, to be constructive, positive and generous.
