Andaman 8 - The Charismatic Coral & Coral Reefs
Corals are charismatic,
Cherubic beings with life,
Churning out secretions of ripe
Calcium carbonate white,
Changing its hues under the oceanic plank,
Choosing pastel colours of beige and pink,
Continues to persevere and persist in motion,
Carrying on its tradition below the vast ocean,
Chestnut coloured beauties creating structures,
Colonies of polyps like castle miniatures,
Class Anthozoa of phylum Cnidaria, reefs covering,
Corals rosy, soft sea fans, feathers, whips, so charming!
Snorkelling in the waters of Andaman Island,
Seeing little rocks of corals perched on sea bed,
Snow castles like tender reefs that shed light,
Sensational, attractive and wonderfully bright.

I have seen the world of corals myself through a glass bottom boat in those Islands but watching is one thing and re-creating the magic with words on paper is quite another. Awesome write. This reminds me, Geeta, of my surprise at learning corals were livings things and not like stone. -Glen
Corals are living beings. That's why there is a great awareness about disturbing the underwater environment. Divers are warned not to touch or disturb the coral reefs.. In 2016, the Great Barrier Reef of Australia - 30% of the Reef's coral died in the heat wave. I was planning to write a short poem on this topic. Thank you Glen.
