I understood this poem upto the extent that instead of telling tales of demons and fairies that can make a child frightened and that may reult in nightmares, the poetess prefers to narrate a story from mythology, making the child aware how a woman is badly treated in the society by demons. I made several attempts to find a website that could translate your Odia poems in Hindi or English, but I failed.

I feel so much joy and humbled to see your interest in reading my Odia poems. This poem has reference to several characters drawn from our epic' Mahabharat ' and cases of barbaric sexual assault on Baby Falak and gang rape of Nirbhaya, a medico of Delhi .I will give an author's note to the poem for better understanding of readers and also post its translation.

(cont) .... ** to me, a 'pick-up' is a woman a guy meets in a bar or? and they talk for a while, have a drink or two....or three, and then leave to go have at his or her 'place' or a hotel/motel (perhaps) . it is a term i probably learned from movies or TV shows. i see today your explanation of the use of baby in India, for a girl's nickname. bri :)

THIS poem i also didn't remember looking at, but (probably, again) i was drawn to it because of the use of baby in the title. in the U.S......[besides being what we call a newborn or very young child].... i think of Baby more as a name a man might call his girlfriend or date or 'pick-up'**. Many thanks poets Sri Kumaramani Mahakul and Bri Edwards for your kind opinion on my poem. Let us hope that the world changes to the better. Baby is an English term, but it is commonly used in Odisha. Many girls have their nick name- - Baby.
