Beethoven's Heaven Poem by Ahmad Shiddiqi

Beethoven's Heaven

Rating: 5.0

(dedicated to Marcia Schechinger)

in the middle of the night
from a not so far place
I hear someone play a piece
piano sonata, Moonlight

then I hear my heart is longing
weeps softly into a deep
few love fragments show up
O dear, where do you belong?

in the middle of August
from a place - a stone's throw
several men perform in a glow
a sigh piano trio, Ghost

then I feel so weird
I turn to be a mere kid
joyous memories around me
O dear, where do you take me?

in the middle of the pine forest
from a very mysterious, dark place
an orchestra sound a grandiose voice
Emperor, a concerto - greatest

then I see vividly suddenly
masked guards bring candles silently
accompany, follow, guide me
O dear, would you free me?

(inspired by Ludwig van Beethoven's Piano Sonata Pathetique)

Being an ardent fan of Beethoven, particularly his incomparable piano music, I liked your splendid poem very much, Ahmad. You have attempted to capture with words the tones of his unique piano music, not an easy task for mere mortals like us. Whether it be his piano sonatas, especially the intense Appassionata or the delightful Waldstein, or his final two extraordinary piano concertos, his music rings and echoes in our minds like nothing else. And so it is with your fine poem, soft in moments yet intense in others; a very worthy attempt to express your admiration for Beethoven's incomparable piano music. Carl.

Beethoven was responsible for taking the concept of five-line notation from the vedas to the west when he visited India...my music knowledge knows only that much...you seem to be well versed extremely and an adept...what shall I say I bow to you Ahmad...kudos
